Steaming Water

Fill a microwave safe bowl with cold water.  Place the bowl in the microwave and set it for 3 to 5 minutes depending on the amount and severity of food splatters on the inside.  When the microwave stops do not remove the bowl right away.  Let it sit inside for a few minutes giving the steam time to loosen up the food particles.  Remove the bowl. You will then be able to take a damp cloth and wipe the inside free of food particles effortlessly.

Freshen and Deodorize

Add a cup of water and a cup of vinegar to your microwave safe bowl.  Proceed with steaming and wiping out the inside.  The vinegar will remove any foul odors.

Lemon is another great deodorizer, leaving a nice citrus scent.  Add a few slices of lemon to your bowl before placing it into the microwave to heat.  Proceed with wiping out the inside and then enjoy the great aroma without affecting the taste of your food in the future.
